Submissions Process

The World Complexity Science Academy Journal (WCSAJ)operates under an extremely strict anonymous peer-review process to protect the overall integrity and credibility of our review procedures. Each submission will involve at least two (2) blind reviewers. No contact or identification information will be made available to the reviewers to ensure anonymity in the review process.  Accordingly, all submissions for peer review must be completely free of author contact and identification details prior to submission to the Submissions Editor.  Before sending a research manuscript to the journal-selected peer reviewers, the Submissions Editor will perform an editorial screening check; only if a submission meets the basic scientific and editorial standards of the Journal will the Submissions Editor initiate the official WCSAJ editorial peer-review process.

Each research contribution will be reviewed by at least two (2) reviewers or, in some cases, three (3) reviewers. The Submissions Editor will then adjudicate the final decision for publication or rejection based upon detailed reviewer assessments.  Peer-reviewers will analyze and evaluate potential research contributions to the Journal according to the following criteria:

  • Originality/uniqueness of the selected research topic
  • Logical organization and structure of the research submission (general/background information/internal coherence)
  • Quality of the internal argumentation of the essay (clarity of author’s arguments/quality of data-analysis/use of preexisting literature)
  • Quality of overall research(general/completeness of bibliographic references/solid methodology
  • Technical quality, stylistics, and consistent use of selected style guide (writing/citations)
  • Overall contribution to the international scientific debate concerning systemics and complexity science

Authors should suggest 3-4 potential peer-reviewers for their papers, based upon the field of possible reviewers from our esteemed Scientific Editorial Board; however, there is no editorial guarantee that any of these suggestions will, in fact, be implemented. Authors should include the full name(s), position(s), email address(es)of their suggested reviewers as well as a justification sentence explaining their suitability to review the paper.Generally, the Submissions Editor will adjudicate the status of a given publication within two to three (2-3) months from the original submission date.

The WCSAJ is open to any consistently employed style guide for writing (e.g., APA, MLA, and Chicago).  However, authors are required to demonstrate and implement a thorough and consistent use of whatever style guide they ultimately select.  Furthermore, since the author holds official legal copyright on their own intellectual property (and WCSAJ is simply a “repository” of sorts), all published research is to be represented as “original” and “unpublished elsewhere” as a direct result.  In order to submit your research to the Submissions Editor, please visit this Submissions FORM.

Preparing a Paper:

Please, before submitting your article, follow the following instructions thoroughly:

Abstract: Each article should contain an abstract of between150 and 250 words. The abstract should state the main purposes and research questions of the article, the methodology and the results/conclusions.

Biographical note. A short biographical note (of between 100 and150 words) is necessary for each author.

Conflicts of interest: Each paper should be accompanied by a declaration that the author(s)has/have no conflict of interest, or that conflict of interest might exist.

Font: Times New Roman, 12-point, double-line, 2.5 cm (or 1 inch) margins. Guidance on how to insert special characters, accents and diacritics is available here.

Funding details. Please supply all details required by your funding and grant-awarding bodies

Length: 5000-9000 total.

Headings:

  1. First-level headings should be in bold, with an initial capital letter for the first word
  2. Second-level headings should be in bold italics, with an initial capital letter for the first word
  3. Third-level headings should be in italics, with an initial capital letter for the first word
  4. Fourth-level headings should be in bold italics, at the beginning of a paragraph.
  5. Please leave a blank line after the headings and before the text.

Keywords: Please provide your article with 5 to 6 keywords

Language: All articles should be in Standard American English. Please, pay special attention to the linguistic quality of your paper.

Tables and figures:  Figures should be high quality (1200 dpi for line art, 600 dpi for grayscale and 300 dpi for colour, at the correct size). We accept the following formats:  EPS, PS, JPEG, GIF, or Microsoft Word (DOC or DOCX).Please, indicate in the text where the tables and figures should appear, for example by inserting [Table 1 near here]. Please, add a separate file with tables and a separate file.  Please, make sure you have permission to use the tables and figures that you have taken from other sources.

Title: Title should be in bold; the initial letters of proper nouns should be capitalized
